ToolWatch Launches Universal Mapping for Smarter Tracking

What if there was one place you could see the location of every tool, asset, and piece of equipment your team relies on?

Now there is. With the latest ToolWatch release, we’re introducing Universal Mapping — a smarter, faster way to know exactly what you have, where it is, and when it was last scanned.

Smarter Maps, Faster Answers

The Universal Map makes location data clear, actionable, and easy to navigate. Whether you’re in the field or in the warehouse, you’ll always have an accurate picture of where your tools and equipment are.

Here’s what’s new in this release:

Map Legend & Icons

Updated icons with an in-app legend make it crystal clear what each symbol means — no guesswork required.

Filters

Quickly narrow your view with smart filters on the left-hand menu. Whether you’re looking for stock items, non-stock items, or scan-tracked assets, filters make it simple.

Scan Source Visibility

Every item now displays how it was last scanned: GPS, BLE, or Barcode. (GPS and BLE require the Wireless Tracking add-on.)

Time-Based Shading

Colored shading shows how fresh the last scan was:

  • 0–24 hours
  • 1–7 days
  • 7–30 days
  • 30+ days

At a glance, you’ll know how current your data is.

Click for Item Detail

Select any item on the map to instantly open its details, including recent scans and quick links to related pages.

Hover-Over Details

Hover on an icon to see fast, lightweight information without leaving the map view.

How It Works

Getting items onto the map is automatic:

  • Stock, non-stock, and barcode-scanned items appear when scanned with location sharing enabled.
  • GPS- and BLE-tracked items appear when Wireless Tracking is enabled.

Icons tell you what type of scan was used, and clicking opens the item browser to confirm reporting or check tracker battery life. If you can’t find something, make sure it has an active tracker and that location sharing is enabled on the device.

Who Can Access It

The Universal Map is available for:

  • Essentials, Pro and Enterprise customers for stock/non-stock and barcode-scanned locations.
  • Wireless Tracking users for GPS and BLE-tracked items.

To try it out, just open Tracking from the left-hand navigation, select Map, and start exploring.

The new Universal Mapping update takes the complexity out of tracking. Instead of digging through lists or juggling spreadsheets, you get visual clarity, scan history, and direct access to item details — all in one place.
